My wife is thinking of taking our family to Wizard World Comic-Con tomorrow here in Austin. I’ve never been, and really have no idea what it’s all about (beyond special guests, dress ups, etc.). If I pay to get in the door, what does that generally get me? Are there things that can only be attended by paying much more money? Thanks.

Harley Quinn for your time.

No clue. I have friends that want me to go to the one in Atlanta but probably won’t go.

I’ve never been to Wizard World, and had no clue it was coming to Austin, but I’ve been to a few cons (And even hosted panels before). Generally you’re going to find lots of merchandise, some of it collectible, so if you’re into collecting toys or comics this might be your chance to score something in real life that you’d otherwise have to order online, or hunt down on ebay. Generally there will also be panels where people talk about things, and autograph sessions, stuff like that. Probably also some media viewing rooms where they show movies or TV shows. If there’s an artist alley, there’ll probably be local artists selling fan art or original comics, whatever.

My wife is looking at the site. Big money for autographs. I remember going to a car show in the 70s and getting an autograph from Martin Milner and Kent McCord, the cops from Adam-12, for free. I guess times have changed.

Depends on the venue I guess. Last time I went to a con the autograph sessions were in the merchandise room and all one had to do was show up at the right time for the right person. But most of the time these sessions are for more obscure (ie. nerd oriented) celebrities like voice actors or writers rather than TV stars.

I only went to the NYC Comic Con... It was fun. Nothing much “to do” but lots of people selling comic books, arts, goodies...etc. Lots of cosplaying too. Even if you don’t spend money, you should have a good time walking around...

I watched a few episodes of that show on Netflix. It still holds up.

Agree. “Emergency” kind of does also.

It does. My older boy enjoyed watching it. I think it appeals because you get all that interesting fire department/medical stuff, and some tension, but not the gritty realism (sex and gore) of the newer shows. It was family TV.
